Mother and Child Safety

If you or your child is in danger we want you to know that there are safe places to go and people who will help protect you and your child. Please do not hesitate to pick up the phone to call for help.  If for any reason you do not get the help you need from the agencies below please pick up the phone and call us.

Home Study

A Home Study is an evaluation of the adopting person(s), their home and surrounding environment, and much more.  It is a critical document for you to be aware of.

Risks

Risks are many in the adoption process.  Being aware of them and how to avoid problems is critical for the safety of you and your child.

Infant Safe Haven

Infant Safe Havens have been established in almost every state.  These are places you can leave your child without the risk of abandonment or abuse.

Child Abuse

Child Abuse: A child is all too often the victim of physical, emotional, and/or sexual abuse.  If you are the parent of a child and feel so stressed or depressed that you are afraid of hurting a child or someone else close to you, please call one of these resources.

Domestic Violence

Domestic violence can be reduced or prevented.  Check out these resources that help anyone involved in a domestic violence situation. They also provide information on sexual assault, battering intervention and prevention programs.

Shelters

Shelters for pregnant women and their babies in the U.S. and in Canada (Violetnet.org and Acws.ca and Womennet.ca) are provided by both government and private agencies.  Many are run by volunteers through local religious organizations.  You may be able to find local women's shelters in your phone book or by calling information.

Additional Areas of Interest

PreventChildAbuse is an organization that promotes and implements prevention efforts at both the national and local levels.

Your state child welfare agency can also help protect you and your child.
