Regarding adoptions from this foreign country:
The Czech Republic is a party to the Hague Convention on Intercountry Adoption and will only approve intercountry adoptions when the prospective adopting parent(s) reside in a country that has also ratified the Convention. Accordingly, for residents of the U.S., adoption from the Czech Republic is not possible at this time (January, 2007). Prospective adoptive parents who are U.S. citizens but legal residents of the Czech Republic may adopt orphans under Czech law. U.S.citizens who reside outside the United States and are considering adopting in the Czech Republic should, prior to beginning the adoption process, confirm whether the country they reside in is a party to the Hague Convention on Intercountry Adoption.
