Regarding adoptions from this foreign country:
Nicaragua is currently open to adoptions by US citizens. However, Nicaraguan law allows only for the adoption of children by Nicaraguan citizens or permanent residents. Prospective adoptive parents must have a permanent residence in the country and be willing to remain in Nicaragua until the child legally becomes an adult. Nicaraguan law does not allow for a Nicaraguan child to travel to the United States to be adopted. Therefore, prospective adoptive parents must obtain a full and final adoption under Nicaraguan law before the child can immigrate to the United States.
