adoption taxpayer id number

What is the Adoption Taxpayer ID Number?

Sometimes the adopting family will need to file federal and state Income Tax forms before they have a Social Security Number for the child they are adopting. The Taxpayer ID number will allow you to file for a child when you do not yet have a Social Security Number.

When you adopt a child you often will not have a birth certificate until months after the adoption, and this means a delay in obtaining a Social Security Number. In order to apply for a child deduction on your U.S. income tax return you will need the social security number or have an Adoption Taxpayer ID Number; this site will help you with information about a temporary child adoption identification number.
